New Delhi: On the first day of the Congress' 'Chintan Shivir', general secretary Ajay Maken made important announcements on the future course of the grand old party. It has been decided that no person will hold any post beyond 5 years in the party. Other measures include setting up of internal public insight department, performance assessment mechanism, mandals between blocs and booths. The Chintan Shivir is being organised by the Congress in view of its recent debacle in five states' polls.

Congress general secretary Ajay Maken said that "there's almost complete unanimity among panel members on the proposal to ensure that party leaders don't give tickets to their kin or relatives without any work in the party, at least 5 years of prior work in the party will be required."

"Any person who is holding a post for 5 years should have to step down, and there should be a cooling period of at least 3 years for that person to come back on the same post. For more than 5 years a person should not be on the same post," he informed, as quoted by news agency ANI.

In its bid to attract youth, the Congress has also decided to have at least 50 perc ent youth in the party's organisation at every level. At the same time, it has also decided that several Mandal committees will be formed at each Bloc and Booth level.

Earlier in the day, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi reached Udaipur to attend the party’s three-day brainstorming session called 'Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir'.

Party sources had previously told news agency ANI that around 400 senior Congress leaders would participate in the 'Chintan Shivir' to discuss issues related to 'communal polarisation', farmers' woes, as well as strengthening the party for the upcoming elections.
