Chennai & Parts Of TN To Get Respite From Scorching Heat? IMD Forecasts Heavy To Moderate Rains Till April 5

According to IMD, some parts of Tamil Nadu recorded a slight drop in maximum temperatures by 1-3°C , while no significant change was observed in Puducherry and Karaikal.

Chennai and several parts of Tamil Nadu witnessed moderate rainfall on Wednesday as a cyclonic circulation over the region triggered a wet spell. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the rainy conditions are likely to persist for the next two days, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat.

Tamil Nadu Weather Conditions

According to IMD, some parts of Tamil Nadu recorded a slight drop in maximum temperatures by 1-3°C , while no significant change was observed in Puducherry and Karaikal. Erode recorded the highest maximum temperature at 37.2°C, whereas Karur Paramathi experienced the lowest minimum temperature of 21.0°C in the plains.

Heavy Rainfall In Several Districts

The IMD has predicted that the wet conditions will continue across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until April 5.

On Wednesday, the IMD has warned of light thunderstorms and lightning with moderate rain in parts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, and Perambalur. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated places, particularly in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli, as per the bulletin issued by IMD on Tuesday.

IMD said: "Yesterday’s north-south trough from the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra & neighbourhood to Comorin area across Karnataka & Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked."

The ongoing showers is likely to result in waterlogging in some areas, making roads slippery and affecting traffic movement in parts of Chennai and surrounding regions. The commuters have been advised to exercise caution while traveling.

With the potential for thunderstorms and heavy showers, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
