CBI Records Jagdish Tytler's Voice Sample In 1984 Riots Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday recorded the voice sample of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Congress leader and an accused in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case Jagdish Tytler has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation to collect his voice sample in connection with the nearly 40-year-old case. He was summoned at the CBI office in Delhi's Pul Bangash area, officials said.  Tytler arrived at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory where further proceedings are underway, they said. The agency has found fresh evidence in the case making it necessary to have the voice sample of Tytler, they said.

Three people were allegedly killed in the riots in Pul Bangash area.

The assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh body guards in 1984 led to violent attacks on the Sikh community in the country.

In November last year, the All India Congress Committee announced the State Election Committee for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections in which Jagdish Tytler was made a member of the Pradesh Election Community for the MCD elections 2022.

The 40-member Pradesh election committee included Chaudhary, former Delhi Congress chiefs Maken and Subhash Chopra, Dikshit, Tytler, Jai Prakash Agarwal, Manish Chatrath, Devender Yadav, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Rajesh Lilothia, Krishna Tirath and Alka Lamba.

BJP's national spokesperson RP Singh had said, "The Congress rubs salt on the wounds of Sikhs of 1984 carnage by inducting Jagdish Tytler in their Delhi State Election Committee. It shows they have no repentance of what Rajiv Gandhi and his team did in 1984," tweeted BJP's Delhi spokesperson RP Singh.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot is protesting against his own government and is observing a day-long fast despite warnings from the party.

The former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister went ahead with his decision to hold the fast after the Congress on Monday night issued a stern warning to him saying any such action on his part would amount to anti-party activity. On Sunday, Pilot had alleged that the Ashok Gehlot-led government failed to investigate graft during the previous BJP rule in Rajasthan and announced his plan to hold a day-long fast for today to press for action.
