CBI Files Chargesheet Against Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi In Land-For-Jobs Scam

Land-For-Jobs Scam: CBI has alleged that the scam happened when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Minister of Railways during the period 2004-2009.

The CBI has filed a chargesheet before a special court against former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and 14 others in the land-for-jobs scam, PTI reported. The CBI has alleged that the scam happened when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Minister of Railways during the period 2004-2009.

Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti and a former general manager of the Railways have also been named as accused in the chargesheet.

The CBI had registered a preliminary enquiry in September 2021 related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam in the Railways. It was converted into an FIR on May 18 this year.

The development comes months after CBI arrested Bhola Yadav, the then officer on special duty (OSD) to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.

In May, the CBI had raided 16 locations during which it recovered a few incriminating documents from the premises of Lalu Prasad and his family members.

According to the CBI, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the patriarch of the RJD, his wife Rabri along with his daughters Misa Yadav and Hema Yadav were given land plots as bribes from some people who were recruited in the Railways.

During 2004-2009, Lalu Yadav had obtained "pecuniary advantages" in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members in lieu of appointment of substitutes in Group "D" post in different zones of Railways, the CBI has alleged.

CBI has said that several residents of Patna sold and gifted their land in favour of the Yadav family and a private company controlled by Yadav and his family. The agency said Lalu Yadav and his family were also involved in transfer of such immovable properties.

"About 1,05,292 sq feet land, immovable properties situated at Patna were acquired by Yadav and his family members through five sales deeds and two gift deeds, showing the payment made to seller in cash in most of the land transfer," IANS quoted a CBI official as saying.
