Cash-For-Query Case: Ethics Panel To Table Report On Mahua Moitra's Expulsion In Lok Sabha On Dec 4

Six panel members voted in support of the report, including Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who had previously been suspended from the party.

The report of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which recommends the expulsion of Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in a "cash-for-query" case, will be tabled in the lower chamber of Parliament on Monday, news agency PTI reported. According to the agenda documents released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ethics Committee head Vinod Kumar Sonkar will lay the panel's maiden report on the table of the House. At a meeting on November 9, the committee accepted its findings, which recommended Moitra's ouster from the Lok Sabha due to the "cash-for-query" accusation.

Six panel members voted in support of the report, including Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who had previously been suspended from the party. Four panel members from opposition parties provided dissent notes.

The report was labelled a "fixed match" by the opposition members, who said that the complaint made by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey, which the panel analysed, was not supported by a "shred of evidence."

Moitra can only be ousted if the House approves the panel's recommendation.

The Winter Session of Parliament begins on Monday and will last until December 22.

According to officials, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) began an investigation into charges of corruption against Mahua Moitra last week after receiving a referral from anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

Moitra was accused of collecting payments to raise issues in Parliament, according to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who filed a complaint with the Lokpal.

Moitra remained aggressive, claiming that neither Lokpal nor the CBI had posted any referral orders on their websites in accordance with the Lokpal Act.  "Hope Rs 13,000 crore Adani coal scam merits CBI PE before my witchhunt," she posted on X.
