BSF Recover Consignment Suspected To Be Heroin In Punjab's Taran Taran

At around 6 am on Saturday, the security forces observed suspicious packets lying in a farm field along the border fencing near the village.

The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled another smuggling attempt and recovered consignment suspected to be heroin in Wan village of Tarn Taran district in Punjab on Saturday. At around 6 am, the security forces observed suspicious packets lying in a farm field along the border fencing near the village.

Soon a search operation was launched and the vigilant BSF troops recovered 7 packets, suspected to be heroin from the farm field. The gross weight of the packets is said to be 7 kgs.

In another incident reported on Friday, the BSF troops recovered five Austria-made Glock pistols and more than 90 rounds of different calibre bullets dropped by a Pakistani drone in the Metla area of Gurdaspur sector.

The "infiltrating rogue" drone was fired upon by our troops and later during search of the area a packet was recovered from the field, said a BSF spokesperson, according to news agency PTI.

According to the security agencies, the consignment was meant for Khalistani separatist groups in the border state.

The cache of arms contained five Glock pistols, ten magazines and 91 rounds. The Glock is a sophisticated semi-automatic pistol used by counter-terrorist forces like National Security Guard (NSG) and other commando teams.

Having a range of 35-50 metres, the semi-automatic pistol is used for close-quarter battle scenario and VIP protection duties.

Raised in 1965 as the Border Guarding Force, BSF, one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India guards the International borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Headed by a Director General the Border Security Force has its headquarters in New Delhi and is known as Force Headquarters (FHQ).
