Background

Breaking News LIVE, November 12, 2021: Hello and Welcome to the Daily Live Blog of ABP Live! We bring you the latest updates as the day progresses right here. Intense showers battered Chennai and other northern regions of Tamil Nadu. As many as 14 people were killed in rain related incidents in the state, standing crops were submerged, trees uprooted and over a 1,000 tenements, mostly huts suffered damage across Tamil Nadu.

The heavy rains and release of surplus from dams, a total of about 13,000 cusecs of water here, transformed several areas in the metropolis and other northern regions of Tamil Nadu into a virtual, large water body as streets swirled with deluge and trash.

Power cut was effected in several regions considering safety. The rains also caused damage to roads and causeways.

The flooding witnessed here for the past four days threw normal life out of gear as closed, inundated subways and traffic diversions gave people a harrowing time.

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the CBSE and the CISCE to issue a revised circular for conducting the ensuing class 10 and 12 board examinations in hybrid mode instead of offline mode only amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plea, filed by six students who would be appearing in the board examinations, alleged that the entire exercise of the boards in conducting the term one or semester one examinations in offline mode only is patently unreasonable .

As per the date sheet announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the term one board exams would commence from November 16.

Semester one of the board examination of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) would commence from November 22.

The plea, filed by advocate Sumanth Nookala, said the ensuing exams be conducted in hybrid mode with an option to choose between offline and online examination.
