Punjab: One Dead, Six Injured After Blast In Ludhiana Court. Home Ministry Seeks Report

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said he will visit Ludhiana to take stock of the situation.

New Delhi: One person died and six others were injured in a blast that rocked the Ludhiana Court complex in poll-bound Punjab on Thursday. According to reports, the blast took place in the washroom on the second floor of the court complex.

After the blast, a stampede broke out in the court complex. The district court was functioning when the blast took place.

The intensity of the blast was so huge that one of the walls in the court complex got damaged and the windows of some vehicles parked in the premises were shattered.

The blast took place near the record room on the second floor of the court complex, Ludhiana Police Commissioner told news agency ANI. Police suspect that the man killed in the blast in the toilet was trying to assemble or plant the explosive device, PTI reported

The blast was of high intensity and has caused damage to the court building and the cars in the parking of the court. The motive behind the blast will only be confirmed after a police investigation.

Meanwhile, sources close to ANI have said that Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sought report from Punjab government on the explosion in Ludhiana district court complex.

Reacting to the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said he will visit Ludhiana to take stock of the situation. "A blast took place in Ludhiana I am going straight to Ludhiana," Channi told reporters in Chandigarh.

"Some anti-national and anti-state forces are trying to commit such disgusting acts and for this the government is alert and the people should also be alert," CM said, adding the culprits will not be spared.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the area has been sealed and forensic teams will collect samples from the blast site. Police have initiated preliminary investigations.
