Brahmin DNA in Congress blood: Surjewala

Seeking votes of the community for his party, Surjewala said if Congress comes to power in Haryana, Brahmin Kalyan Board would be set up in the state.

NEW DELHI: In a statement that could stir a political controversy in the coming days, senior Congress leader and its media in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, in an attempt to woo the upper class, claimed that his party has Brahmin Samaj's DNA in its blood. Surjewala said this while addressing a state-level Brahmin seminar held on September 2 in Haryana's Kurukshetra. "The Indian National Congress is a party which has the DNA of the Brahmin Samaj in its blood," the Congress leader said amid the chants of "Surjewala Zindabad" by those who were present in the meeting. Seeking votes of the community for his party, Surjewala said if Congress comes to power in Haryana, Brahmin Kalyan Board would be set up in the state. Surjewala also talked about reservation to the Brahmins in his speech and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of insulting the community.
