'BJP Plans To Create Tension In Bengal, Pay Parties To Divide Votes Ahead Of 2024 Polls': CM Mamata

Mamata Banerjee stated that the saffron party also intended to sponsor "any party that can divide the Trinamool Congress votes."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the assembly on Thursday that the opposition BJP was preparing to cause disruptions by inciting division among the people in order to cast the state in a negative light ahead of next year's national elections, news agency PTI reported. During a debate in the state house, Banerjee said she had evidence that the BJP's plans were laid out during a recent meeting in New Delhi with senior officials of the party's state branch.

She added that the saffron party also intended to sponsor "any party that can divide the Trinamool Congress votes."

"I have information regarding the BJP meeting in the national capital. I will not name those present in it. They are planning to divide society on the basis of religion and caste. They are planning to highlight alleged crimes against women and weaker sections including SCs, STs and Rajbangshis so that the state can be shown in bad light," she was quoted by PTI in its report.

The legislature debated a motion introduced by the opposition BJP on the violence in the panchayat polls and the state's law and order condition.
