Birbhum Violence: BJP Fact-Finding Team Submits Report To JP Nadda, CM Mamata Says Report May Affect Probe

The report stated that "Under TMC leadership, the mafia is ruling in West Bengal in connivance with police & political leadership. Law and order have totally collapsed."

New Delhi: The BJP's fact-finding team submitted its report on Birbhum violence to party national chief JP Nadda on Wednesday in Delhi.

The report stated that “Under TMC leadership, the mafia is ruling in West Bengal in connivance with police & political leadership. Law and order have totally collapsed.”

It also added that local residents have deserted their homes due to threat to their lives and recommends NHRC and NCW visit Bagtui.

“Local residents have deserted their homes fearing threat to their lives and property. It is recommended that NHRC, NCW, and NCWCR visit Bagtui and instill confidence-building measures,” the report said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, condemned the move saying, ''Submission of reports by BJP leadership to JP Nadda is condemnable and this might affect the investigation. I condemn this type of political attitude of the BJP party and the Central party leadership of the BJP and the Central Govt. Reports also carry the name of the district TMC  president and this is a larger conspiracy of the BJP party. BJP wants to arrest the district president of TMC."

Prior to the submission of the report, West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said that the same report will be submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah as well.

Talking to news agency ANI, Majumdar said that the five-member fact-finding team had to face problems in reaching the village because of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

“The fact-finding committee went to the village in Birbhum where the incident took place. We had to face problems to reach the village due to the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). The committee had four former IPS officers and they made a comprehensive report,” said Majumdar.

The five-member fact-finding committee of the BJP consists of four former IPS officers and West Bengal state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar. Bharati Ghosh, Satya Pal Singh, KC Ramamurthy, and Brijlal are the four former IPS officers who are part of the committee.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with the party members in West Bengal has been postponed due to a change in his schedule. However, Majumdar told ANI that the meeting will be fixed soon.

“Our meeting with PM Modi has been postponed due to a change in his schedule. Whenever a new date is fixed we will meet him and give details accordingly,” Majumdar said.

As many as nine people have lost their lives in the Birbhum violence incident with three being treated in hospital for burn injuries.

The violence took place after the murder of Trinamool Congress panchayat leader Bhadu Sheikh. The incident spawned likely due to rivalry over illegal sand mining, news agency PTI reported.
