Bihar Polls, Bihar Assembly Elections 2020 LIVE Updates: The elections to the 243-member assembly of Bihar is taking place in three phases. It is one of the biggest elections globally to be held during the prevailing COVID-19 situation. The first and second phase of the elections on 94 seats concluded in the state amid strict Covid-19 protocols. The third phase of polls is scheduled for November 7. The results will be announced on November 10.

JD(U) ministers in the fray are Bijendra Prasad Yadav (Supaul), Narendra Narayan Yadav (Alamnagar), Maheshwar Hazari (Kalyanpur), Ramesh Rishideo (Singheshwar), Khurshid alias Firoz Ahmed (Sikta), Lakshmeshwar Roy (Laukaha), Bima Bharti (Rupauli) and Madan Sahni (Bahadurpur).

Four ministers are in the fray from the BJP Pramod Kumar (Motihari), Suresh Sharma (Muzaffarpur), Binod Narayan Jha (Benipatti) and Krishnakumar Rishi (Banmankhi).

Besides, wife and daughter-in-law respectively of recently deceased ministers Vinod Kumar Singh (BJP) and Kapil Deo Kamat (JDU) respectively are in the fray from the late legislatorss respective seats Pranpur and Babubarhi.

Another keenly watched candidate is Subhashini Yadav from Bihariganj whose father, veteran socialist leader and former Union minister Sharad Yadav, had been a multiple-term MP from Madhepura under which the assembly segment falls. She is contesting on a Congress ticket.

Firing at a polling booth in Purnia's Sarsi, one dead
According to local news reports, there has been a firing incident at a polling booth in Sarsi seat in the Purnia district. One person has reportedly died in the incident, Prabhat Khabar reported.
The firing incident was triggered after heated arguments between villagers and security forces who allegedly beat up voters for breaking a queue at booth number 282, said a New Indian Express report. There has been no official statement on the matter yet.

According to the Election Commission, the poll percentage at 1 pm was 34.82, higher than the corresponding figures for the first phase (33.10) and the second phase (32.82) of polls. The maximum turnout of 40.15 per cent till 1 pm has been recorded in the Muzaffarpur district, and the minimum in Darbhanga (26.58).

While the polling so far has been peaceful, police had to open fire in the air in Purnia to disperse a crowd trying to disturb voting, even as people boycotted polling at 12 booths in Katihar in protest against barriers not being set up at two railway crossings.

The political future of 12 ministers of the Nitish Kumar government is at stake in the third and final phase of the Bihar assembly elections taking place today. In the third phase, elections for 78 seats is underway and as per Election Commission, total voter turnout till 3 pm stands at 45.91%.
