Bihar Man Arrested For Making Bomb Threat Call To Resident In Mumbai's Santacruz Area

55-year-old Rafat Hussain had allegedly received a video call on Tuesday from unidentified persons claiming that they would be carrying out a bomb blast in the country.

New Delhi: Mumbai Police on Saturday arrested a person for allegedly making a bomb threat call in the Santacruz area of the city on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported.

According to the report, the accused has been identified as Ranjit Kumar Sahani, a resident of Bihar. He was arrested in Charni Road area of ​​South Mumbai. Investigation in the matter is underway, police said.

It is to be noted that police had registered a case Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 506 (2) against an unknown person for making a hoax call to a person in Santacruz area on Tuesday. Police said the caller was being traced.

According to reports, 55-year-old Rafat Hussain had allegedly received a video call on Tuesday from unidentified persons claiming that they would be carrying out a bomb blast in the country.

Hussain then approached the Santacruz police station and informed the officials about the threat call and lodged a complaint based on which police took action.

Notably, IPC section 506 (2) deals with punishment for criminal intimidation. A person committing the offence of criminal intimidation shall be punished with imprison­ment of either description for a term, which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both, as per IPC.

If the threat be to cause death or grievous hurt or to cause the destruction of any property by fire, or to cause an offence punishable with death, or imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years.

In a similar incident, another person was arrested for making a bomb threat call at Zaveri Bazaar in Mumbai. The arrested was identified as Dinesh Suttar and he was presented before the court on September 19, as per reports.
