'Should Be Equal Even If You Are A Small State': Rahul Addresses Locals In Nagaland

After Rahul Gandhi made an "impromptu" stop in Nagaland's Kohima, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh pointed to a plaque outside the stadium.

As the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra resumed in Nagaland on Tuesday, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the Kohima War Cemetery. This is the third day of the yatra, and Rahul while addressing the locals in Kohima stated: "It doesn't matter if you are a small state, you should be equal to all other people in the country. That is the idea of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," news agency ANI reported.

On Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said: "Last year, we did a (Bharat Jodo) yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to bring the nation together, different cultures, different religions, different languages and we had a view that we should do a yatra from east to west."

After Rahul Gandhi made an "impromptu" stop in Nagaland's Kohima, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh pointed to a plaque outside the stadium. 'Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima inaugurated by Shri A B Vajpayee, Prime Minister of India on 28th October, 2003," reads the plaque.

The Kohima Village Sports Association, according to Ramesh, had planned a week-long sports meet at this venue. 'The Association was started in 1944! The plaque at the stadium is most telling. Woh bhi ek zamaana tha!' Ramesh posted on X.

Earlier, on the last day of the contingent's visit to Manipur, Chief Minister Biren Singh slammed the Congress, saying it is not the time to organise rallies and "do politics" in the state. "It is not Bharat Jodo (Yatra), it is Bharat Todo. Whenever he comes here, there is trouble. The situation is returning to normal, so he has come to create trouble, but we are all alert,” Biren had said.

On Sunday, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra kicked off from Nyay Maidan in Khongjom, Thoubal. Mallikarjun Kharge inaugurated a custom-made bus that would transport Congress leaders throughout the yatra, saying that the yatra is "for the social and political justice of all Indian citizens." The Volvo bus includes a hydraulic raise that allows Gandhi to address audiences en route.  The yatra will last 66 days and traverse over 6,700 km across 15 states.
