Bengaluru Stampede: Death Toll Rises To 11 In Stampede After RCB Victory Celebrations

Eleven died and several suffered injuries after heavy crowds gathered outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory yesterday. Addressing a press conference, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said that 11 people died and 33 were injured in the stampede.

"A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured," Siddaramaiah said as quoted by news agency ANI.

What Karnataka Deputy CM Said?

Speaking about the incident, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that he has spoken to the police commissioner and appealed to the people to remain calm.

“I have spoken to the Police Commissioner and everyone. I will also go to the hospital later. I do not want to disturb the doctors who are taking care of the patients. The exact number cannot be told now. We appeal to the people to remain calm. We shortened the program. The program ended within 10 minutes. We are trying to make everything normal...Lakhs of people came,” said Shivakumar.

According to news agency PTI, police used mild force to control the crowd and bring the situation under control ahead of a special felicitation at the stadium for the RCB team organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). The report, further quoting eye-witnesses said that a stampede-like situation emerged as fans thronged the venue of felicitation. Visuals showed police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious in ambulances to nearby hospitals.

Visuals also showed some of those who were in an unconscious state being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by those nearby. Police had a tough time in crowd management as a large number of cricket enthusiasts tried to gain entry, at the same time, into the stadium.

According to a traffic advisory from the Bengaluru police, entry to Chinnaswamy Stadium was limited to only those with valid tickets and passes.

As there is limited parking facility available near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, those who are attending the event are advised to use public transport and Metro. The public is requested to cooperate, it had said.
