Baglihar Dam Gates Opened Due To Heavy Rainfall In Ramban, Jammu And Kashmir
Heavy rainfall in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, led to opening of Baglihar Dam gates on Chenab River to prevent flooding.

Recently, tensions between India and Pakistan have risen following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In response, India took several strong actions, including launching a water strike against Pakistan. This involved closing the gates of the Baglihar Dam, which is located on the Chenab River. However, heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has led to the opening of several gates of the dam to manage the rising water levels. In Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, the gates of the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River have been opened following heavy rainfall in the region.

The rainfall in the region has brought down temperatures, but it has also caused major problems, such as waterlogging. This has made life difficult for many residents. In addition, a landslide at Chamba Seri in the Ramban district has halted traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Many travelers are stuck, and clearing the road is proving challenging due to the continuous rain. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore road access as quickly as possible.
Suspension of Indus Water Treaty
The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan in 1960 with the help of the World Bank. This treaty established how both countries would share the waters of the Indus River and its tributaries. Although the treaty has helped prevent major conflicts, disputes over projects like the Baglihar Dam have been ongoing for decades. These dams generate hydroelectric power, meaning they produce electricity by harnessing the flow of water.
India's Military Action: Operation Sindoor
In retaliation for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India launched airstrikes against Pakistan and Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on the night of May 6-7. During these strikes, nine terrorist hideouts were targeted. The operation, named Operation Sindoor, came about 15 days after the attack in Pahalgam. Many Indian leaders, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, have praised the success of this military operation. Meanwhile, Pakistan's actions have been described as more intense than those during the Kargil War.
