Babri Masjid: Here's what Yogi Adityanath wants both sides must do to find solution
New Delhi: After giving his maiden speech in Lok Sabha after becoming Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday, Yogi Adityanath "welcomed SC observation" on Ayodhya matter related with Babri Masjid.
Yogi also expressed desire that "both sides must sit down and find a solution".
"We welcome SC observation; both sides must sit down and find a solution", said UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Supreme Court observation on Ayodhya matter.
However, earlier in the day, virtually ruling out an out-of-court settlement of the Ayodhya dispute as suggested by the Supreme Court, the Babri Masjid Action Committee on Tuesday said it was open only to mediation by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) himself.
"We have faith if the CJI himself mediates or nominates a team of Supreme Court judges or court itself hears the matter. But we are not willing to accept an out-of-court settlement," said Babri Masjid Action Committee convener Zafaryab Jilani.
"An amicable solution is impossible. This has to be dealt in the court itself. It has been long pending in the court. If the court passes any order to that effect (amicable solution), we will think about future course of action," he added.
An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice J.S. Khehar said amicable settlement of the Ayodhya dispute was a better course than insistence on judicial pronouncement.
About Babri Masjid:
Babri Masjid was a mosque in Ayodhya, located in Faizabad district. It was one of the largest mosques in the Uttar Pradesh state and according to the mosque's inscriptions, it was built in 1528–29 CE (935 AH) by Mir Baqi, on orders of the Mughal emperor Babur (after whom it is named).
BJP, VHP and RSS leaders, on 6 December 1992, gathered at the site to offer prayers and perform a symbolic kar seva. At noon, a teenage Kar Sevak (volunteer) was "vaulted" on to the dome and that signalled the breaking of the outer cordon and soon after, a large number of kar sevaks demolished the mosque.
