'Avoid Remarks Like Pickpocket, Panauti': EC's Advisory To Rahul Gandhi For Public Utterances Against PM Modi
The poll panel acted in response to a directive from the Delhi High Court issued in December last year.
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an advisory to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, asking him to be more careful and cautious in his public speeches in the future. The advisory came in the wake of his "panauti" and "pickpocket" jibes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sources told news agency ANI.
The poll panel acted in response to a directive from the Delhi High Court issued in December last year. It had directed the Election Commission of India to act against Rahul Gandhi "in accordance with the law" for his speech in November last year in which he called PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and businessman Gautam Adani ‘pickpockets’.
The Election Commission had also issued notice to Rahul Gandhi over his 'panauti and pickpocket' jibes at PM Modi.
"Election Commission of India (ECI) issues an advisory to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. After considering all facts in the matter related to certain remarks against the Prime Minister, including the Delhi High Court order and his reply, the Election Commission of India has advised him to be more careful and cautious in the future," ANI reported on Wednesday.

The Commission has asked Rahul Gandhi to take note of the advisory of the Commission to all parties, star campaigners, and candidates while making public utterances, reported ANI.
Last week, the Election Commission issued an advisory to all political parties to maintain decorum and utmost restraint in public campaigning and raise the level of election campaigning to "issue-based" debate.
