‘Attack On Muslims’: AIMPLB Seeks Urgent Meeting With President Murmu Over Waqf Amendment Bill

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) seeks an urgent meeting with President Murmu to protest the recently passed Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it unconstitutional and an attack on Muslims.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has sought an “urgent appointment” with President Droupadi Murmu on Friday. The request comes after the Waqf Amendment Bill passed in the Parliament. The AIMPLB has also announced plans to initiate nationwide protests and legal action against the recent amendment.

According to a press release shared by the AIMBPLB, the board has sought an early appointment with the president to express their “deep concern” regarding the recently passed document. The Muslim board has called the act thoroughly unconstitutional and an attack on the Muslims of country. The general secretary in the letter has written that the act "requires serious reconsideration as they are inconsistent with the fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution of India".

A bill becomes an act after it is passed through both houses of Parliament and obtains approval from the president.

Congress, AIMIM Leaders Move SC Against Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025

Congress MP Mohammad Jawed and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday challenged the validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the Supreme Court, saying it violated the constitutional provisions. Jawed's plea alleged the bill imposed arbitrary restrictions on Waqf properties and their management, undermining the religious autonomy of the Muslim community.

The petition, filed through advocate Anas Tanwir, said the proposed law discriminated against the Muslim community by imposing restrictions that are not present in the governance of other religious endowments. The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 128 members voting in favour and 95 opposing it. It was passed in the Lok Sabha early April 3 with 288 members supporting it and 232 against it.
