Atiq, Ashraf Ahmed Murder Case: SIT To Start Investigation Today, Likely To Visit Crime Scene — Details

The Police Commissioner of Prayagraj has formed a three-member SIT, which includes SP Crime Satish Chandra, ASP Satyendra Tiwari, and Inspector Om Prakash, to lead the investigation.

New Delhi: The SIT formed to probe the murder case of Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf will begin its investigation from today. Just yesterday, the SIT had obtained FIRs and other documents related to the case.

The Police Commissioner of Prayagraj has formed a three-member SIT, which includes SP Crime Satish Chandra, ASP Satyendra Tiwari, and Inspector Om Prakash of the Crime Branch, to lead the investigation.

The SIT may also conduct a crime scene examination today.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists on Saturday night while police personnel was escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

The assailants were caught on the spot.

Meanwhile, the murder case has revealed a connection between Kanpur and Varanasi.

A Jigana pistol made in Turkey was confiscated from a shooter at the scene of the crime. It has been disclosed that Babar, from Kanpur, had arranged for this Jigana pistol.

Babar's name had also emerged during the Kanpur violence. He is the nephew of Raees Banarasi, a notorious criminal from Varanasi.

Babar has been evading the authorities for the past few days.

He is an active member of the infamous D-2 gang from Kanpur. This gang is also engaged in the illicit trade of semi-automatic weapons.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination has revealed that Atiq was hit by eight bullets and Ashraf by six bullets.

According to the report, Atiq suffered one bullet wound to the head, one to the neck, two on the chest, and the remaining bullets in various parts of his body, including the stomach and hand. One bullet was lodged in the upper part of Atiq's head from the left temple.

Ashraf, on the other hand, was shot twice in the head, with bullets also found in his throat, chest, and abdomen.

The post-mortem examination was conducted by a team of five doctors, who carefully examined the bodies and recorded their findings.
