Assam: Two Terror Modules Linked To Bangladesh Outfit Busted, 11 Detained

Jamiul Huda Madrassa building at Sahariagaon, Morigaon has been sealed on suspicions of it being a safe house of detained persons. Electronic devices and incriminating documents have also been seized.

New Delhi: Eleven persons with alleged links to the Bangladesh-based terror group Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) were detained from Assam’s Barpeta and Morigaon districts, police officers said on Thursday. The detained persons are suspected to have connections with Islamic fundamentalism and have linkages with the international terror outfits, news agency ANI reported.

"Assam Police detained 11 persons from Morigaon, Barpeta, Guwahati and Goalpara. They're connected to Islamic fundamentalism having linkages with global terror outfits AQIS & ABT. Further action being taken per law," ANI quoted GP Singh, Special DGP Law and Order, Border, Director V&AC, Assam, as saying.

According to the report, the Jamiul Huda Madrassa building at Sahariagaon, Morigaon has been sealed on suspicions of it being a safe house of the detained persons. Numerous electronic devices and incriminating documents have also been seized from them.

“We got information about a man named Mustafa who runs a madrassa in Moriabari associated with anti-national activities. He's linked with financing of Ansarullah Bangla Team related to Al-Qaeda in the sub-continent. A case has been registered under various sections of UAPA,” said Aparna N, SP, Morigaon.

She further added, “An activist was arrested from Kolkata while another was arrested from Barpeta. They were involved in anti-national and terror funding activities.”

Further investigation in the matter is underway, police added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said two major terror modules were busted in the state in a “nationally coordinated operation”.
