Watch | Incessant Rainfall In Assam Damages Trains At Railway Station In Dima Hasao District

Guwahati: Incessant rainfall and flood have thrown normal life out of gear in several parts of Assam over the past few days. The situation reported deteriorated further in the the state with one more person dead in Darrang district, taking the death toll to nine in the current pre-monsoon floods and landslides.  Officials have informed that over 6.62 lakh people have been affected in 27 of the state's 34 districts.  

A recent video shared by news agency ANI shows the aftermath of incessant rainfall and flood at New Haflong railway station in Dima Hasao district of Assam. The visuals show a damaged New Haflong railway station following a landslide due to heavy downpour.

The video also shows bogies of a train stranded as rain continued to batter the hilly region. The district has so far reported 3 deaths due to massive landslides.

The situation in the hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) in Dima Hasao district remained critical since last two days. The railway line connects the Lumding-Badarpur single line railway route, which connects Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and the southern part of Assam with the rest of the country.

At least 6,62,385 people, including 1,25,491 children and 2,44,216 women, have been affected and nearly 8,260 houses have been either partially and completely damaged in 1,414 villages across 27 districts, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority officials told news agency IANS.

Districts including Cachar, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Nagaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath and Lakhimpur were worst-affected. 

Rescue operations are being conducted by the Army, Assam Rifles, National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force along with the district administrations who are working round the clock to help stranded people to provide relief to them.
