'Close Alcohol Shops On Friday': Owaisi's Rhetoric On Gurugram Shutting Meat Shops On Tuesdays
Owaisi on Friday took to Twitter and expressed disaccord to the recent order by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), asking meat shop owners to shut their shops on every Tuesday "respecting Hindu beliefs".
New Delhi: Reacting to the news of all meat shop in Gurugram ordered to remain closed on every Tuesday citing "Hindu sentiments", All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised concern asking how can beliefs get hurt by what other people are doing in their private lives.
Owaisi on Friday took to Twitter and expressed disaccord to the recent order by Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), asking meat shop owners to shut their shops on every Tuesday "respecting Hindu beliefs".
"How can beliefs get hurt by what other people are doing in their private lives? People are buying, selling or eating meat, they’re not forcing you to partake. By this logic, close alcohol shops on Friday? Meat is food for millions of Indians. Cannot treat it as something impure," he tweeted.
A report published in The Times of India stated that the decision to close meat shops on every Tuesday in Gurugram was taken during a civic body meeting as the law governing them prescribes that they be closed once a week.
During the meeting it was also decided that the license fee for meat shops shall be increased from the current Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 and penalty on unauthorised butchers be hiked from existing Rs 500 to Rs 5,000.
The House has also decided to close down unauthorised meat shops operating in residential areas. During the dicussion, members pondered upon two days - Sunday and Tuesday for closure of the meats shops. Later on, the body unanimously held view that meat shops should be closed on Tuesday and not Sunday as sales are generally high on weekends.
