Annamalai Rules Himself Out Of Tamil Nadu BJP Leadership Race: 'There Is No Contest...'

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai's remarks come as discussions about a potential leadership reshuffle in Tamil Nadu BJP gain traction.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai on Friday made it clear that he is not in the race for the party’s state leadership. Amid growing speculation about a change in leadership, Annamalai firmly stated that the BJP in Tamil Nadu would select a leader unanimously, but he would not be in it.

State BJP chief K Annamalai said, as per ANI, "There is no contest in Tamil Nadu BJP, we will select a leader unanimously. But I am not in the race. I am not in the BJP state leadership race."

"Where is the scope for a contest. And that is why I said I am not in the race for the post. I will do the work assigned to me by the party and there is no problem for me," he said, as per PTI.

On the Waqf Bill, Annamalai said that the move would benefit underprivileged Muslims.

His remarks come as discussions about a potential leadership reshuffle in the state BJP gain traction. During a recent visit to Delhi, Annamalai was reportedly informed that maintaining the AIADMK-BJP alliance is a priority ahead of the Assembly elections. AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami is said to have voiced concerns regarding Annamalai’s approach, leading to speculation about his possible removal from the post.

However, some reports suggest that the BJP leadership is reluctant to compromise Annamalai’s position in order to secure the alliance. Yet, the final decision on the leadership matter remains uncertain as discussions continue within the party.
