Anna University Student Sexual Assault: AIADMK, BJP Workers Detained Over Protest In Chennai
On Wednesday, the police arrested a 37-year-old biriyani seller in connection with the sexual assault on Anna University student.
A day after the sexual assault of a woman student on Anna University campus in Chennai came to light, AIADMK and BJP workers staged a protest demanding justice on Thursday. Following the protest, both the party workers were detained by the police. Earlier, Student Federation of India, a wing of CPM, staged a protest in front of Anna University.
On the detention, BJP leader Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said, "This is atrocious. They want to crush our voice."

On Wednesday, the police arrested a 37-year-old biriyani seller in connection with the crime. The woman was a second year student of College of Engineering, Guindy and the crime took place on December 23. On that day, the student was reportedly talking to her male friend at a building on the college campus when a miscreant hit the friend and sexually assaulted her.
Based on the complaint from the survivour, Kotturpuram All Women's Police Station registered a case and four special teams were formed to nab the accused.
The police told PTI: "During investigation, based on scientific evidence, Gnanasekaran of Kottur (a neighbourhood near the college) has been arrested for this crime. The suspect has given a confessional statement. He is doing business by running a biryani shop on the pavement."
"On the university campus, CCTV cameras have been installed and security officials have been appointed, " they added.
On Wednesday, the Opposition leaders from AIADMK and BJP questioned the law and order situation in the state. Condeming the DMK, they alleged that women had no safety in educational places and workplace.
