‘PM Modi Should Apologies’: Congress Slams BJP As Its Leader's Son Gets Arrested In Uttarakhand Resort Murder Case

Ankita Bhandari Murder: Congress called the BJP's expulsion of Vinod Arya and his son "selective action," and said the party should expel all lawmakers accused of crimes against women.

Congress attacked the BJP on Saturday after the son of one of its leaders was arrested in connection with the murder of a woman receptionist at a resort in Uttarakhand, and demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologise to the country, news agency PTI reported.

The opposition party called the BJP's expulsion of Vinod Arya and his son "selective action," and said the party should expel all lawmakers accused of crimes against women.

Pulkit Arya, Arya's other son, was arrested in connection with Ankita Bhandari's murder.

She worked as a receptionist at Pulkit Arya's resort in Pauri, Uttarakhand.

The resort's manager and assistant manager were also arrested on Friday, and all three were placed in judicial custody for two weeks in connection with the murder of the 19-year-old receptionist.

Supriya Shrinate, Congress spokesperson, claimed at a press conference at the AICC headquarters that whenever an incident of sexual exploitation or rape of a woman comes to light, the name of a BJP leader comes up.

"Some action was taken after the outpouring of rage, but I believe it was selective." If action is to be taken, remove all of your MLAs and MPs who have committed crimes against women," she said, before naming BJP leaders.

She also attacked Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on social media after the BJP leader posted a photo of herself in a kitchen.

"As the country mourned the death of the woman receptionist, the minister asked on social media, 'what's cooking in her kitchen?"

"I don't know what's cooking in your kitchen, but there's fear in the minds of women and girls; she should speak up and take action against the perpetrators," Shrinate said.
