Jailbreak Worry Prompts Police To Shift Amritpal Singh's Aides Out Of Punjab: Report

On February 23, this year, thousands of supporters of Amritpal entered the Ajnala police station in Amritsar to free a member.

New Delhi: Khalistan allies and supporters of Amritpal Singh were moved out of Punjab after Central Intelligence agencies raised worries over conceivable escape and repeat of the Ajnala episode, reported news agency ANI. On February 23, this year, thousands of supporters of Amritpal entered the Ajnala police station in Amritsar to free a member who had been arrested in an abduction case.

After sharing their intelligence report on the arrested "Waris Punjab De" (WPD) associates under the National Security Act (NSA) and recommending moving them out of Punjab, intelligence agencies have confirmed this, according to a source, reported ANI.

For security reasons, Amritpal Singh's associates have been moved to the Dibrugarh jail in Assam.

If they had been imprisoned in Punjab, the arrested individuals would have engaged in jailbreaks, according to the report.

“They would have radicalized other jailed criminals and would have associated them in Anandpur Khalsa Fauj/AKF,” the report said as quoted by ANI.

In addition, it stated that they would have established law and order by mobilising against to the arrest, as demonstrated in the Ajnala incident. Either way, they would have carried out their illegal activities from the Punjab jail.

According to the report, the arrested individuals were charged under the National Security Act (NSA) for using youth for violence and promoting gun culture by naming their private militia Anandpur Khalsa Fauj/AKF.

Additionally, the report stated that the arrested individuals posed a threat to national integrity by openly declaring that they do not believe in the state, defying orders from the Punjab Government not to display weapons in public, beating youth at so-called drug de-addiction centers who did not toe the line of WPD etc.

“Had action not been taken under NSA, goons of Waris Punjab De would have repeated such incidents as they did not believe in the majesty of the law. Their links with proscribed outfit SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) who have now come in open support of WPD,” it said, quoted ANI.

In the Ajnala incident, Amritpal supporters threatened the police with dire consequences if they did not free Lovepreet Toofan with swords and high-calibre firearms.

The allies, waving swords and weapons, got through police blockades erected outside the Ajnala police station.
