Amit Shah's Lunch At Bengal Farmer's House Even As Protests Over Agri Laws Continue At Delhi Borders

Kolkata: As part of the farmer outreach program of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in a bid to spread awareness about the contentious farm laws, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday had lunch at a farmer’s home in the Balijuri village of East Midnapore district. Shah is on a two-day visit to West Bengal to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. "Had delicious food for lunch at Shri Jhunu Singh ji and Shri Sanatan Singh ji's home in Belijuri village, Midnapore (West Bengal). Grateful to the entire family for such warmth, affection and love," Home Minister tweeted. Amit Shah Stops For Lunch At Farmer’s House This is the second visit of the HM in the state since November this year, Shah visited Midnapore to address a rally. Ahead of addressing the rally, he visited the farmer’s residence to have lunch. Expressing his happiness, Sanatan Singh who hosted Amit Shah for lunch said that he was extremely happy with the visit of such an eminent personality at his place and never expected a day like that ever in his life. “Club members informed me that Amit Shah will have lunch at my place. I am really very happy about this. I never expected that I will see such a day in my life ever. I am a farmer. I am too poor to serve anything so I will serve him rice and dal,” Sanatan Singh said. “I will request him to keep the country in peace and harmony. I am glad that I will welcome such an eminent personality. It’s been around 50 years that I am connected to this party,” he further added. As part of the day plan, Shah first stopped at the Ramakrishna Mission in Kolkata and the Siddheshwari Kali temple in Midnapore. The HM also garlanded the statue of freedom fighter Khudiram Bose and said that it was his fortune to touch the soil of the home of such freedom fighters. “It is my good fortune that I have been able to touch to my forehead, the soil of the home of the great freedom fighter Khudiram Bose. He happily went to the gallows to sacrifice himself for the Indian freedom movement,” Amit Shah said. Farmers Protest At Delhi Border Intensifying While thousands of farmers have been protesting against the contentious farm laws that were enacted in September, earlier this year, Amit Shah’s lunch at a farmer’s residence in West Bengal comes as part of BJP’s outreach program to spread awareness on the farm laws. The agitation of farmers against the three agricultural laws passed by the Centre has entered its 23rd continuous day on Saturday. The protesting farmers have hardened their stance again, while the Centre continues to back the laws. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday, remarked that farmers have the right to protest, but it must not endanger life and property.
