Amarnath Tragedy: Five Pilgrims From Andhra Pradesh Reported Missing, Check Helpline Numbers

Amarnath Tragedy: The five missing pilgrims were identified as Vinod Ashok, Gunnisetty Sudha, B Madhu, Meduru Jhansi Lakshmi and Vanapalli Nagendra Kumar

Hyderabad: At least five pilgrims, including two women, from Andhra Pradesh, were reported missing in the cloudburst and flash flood near the holy Amaranth cave in Kashmir, the state government said on Sunday.

The five missing pilgrims were identified as Vinod Ashok, Gunnisetty Sudha, B Madhu, Meduru Jhansi Lakshmi and Vanapalli Nagendra Kumar and they belonged to different towns in the state and remained "untraced" after the tragedy near the holy cave. The government has launched a call centre to assist the pilgrims.

The state government dispatched Andhra Pradesh Bhavan additional resident commissioner Himanshu Kaushik to Srinagar to coordinate with the local authorities and ensure safety of the pilgrims from the state, an official release said.

The Andhra Pradesh government also opened a dedicated helpline number 1902 to extend required help to pilgrims from the state. People from Andhra Pradesh who are stuck up in Amarnath can reach out to helpline numbers (011-23384016, 011-23387089) in the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi for any assistance to pilgrims and their relatives, the release said.
