36 Amarnath Pilgrims Sustain Minor Injuries In Bus Collision On Jammu-Srinagar Highway

The accident with Amarnath pilgrims occurred when the last bus in the convoy experienced a brake failure and rammed into two stationary vehicles near the Chanderkoot Langer site.

At least 36 Amarnath pilgrims suffered minor injuries in a bus accident near Chanderkoot in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district on Friday, after a vehicle in a convoy headed to the Pahalgam base camp lost control and collided with other vehicles along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

According to officials, the accident occurred when the last bus in the convoy experienced a brake failure and rammed into two stationary vehicles near the Chanderkoot Langer site, causing a chain collision that damaged four vehicles in total.

Pahalgam Convoy Lost Control

Ramban Deputy Commissioner (and District Election Officer), in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said: "The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and hit stranded vehicles at the Chanderkot Langer site, damaging 4 vehicles and causing minor injuries to 36 Yatris. The District Administration, already present at the site, immediately shifted the injured to DH Ramban...The Yatris were later shifted to other vehicles for their onward journey."

Following the incident, the damaged vehicles were replaced and the remaining pilgrims were transferred to other buses to continue their journey to the Pahalgam base camp in South Kashmir, one of the two key routes for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Union MoS Jitendra Singh said, "Just now spoke to DC Ramban, Mr. Mohammad Alyas Khan, after learning about the road accident at Chandrakot involving a vehicle carrying Amarnath pilgrims. 36 pilgrims sustained minor injuries, which are being attended at District Hospital Ramban. There is no reason for concern. All arrangements for the pilgrims are in place and are being constantly supervised by the administration."
