Priyanka & Rahul Misguided, Will Fight Sidhu's Elevation As CM Face: Ex-Punjab CM Amarinder Singh

Captain Amarinder Singh also disclosed that he had offered his resignation to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi 3 weeks earlier.

Chandigarh: Days after his "humiliating ouster" as Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday spoke in-depth about the aftermaths of political turmoil in Congress state unit.

An unrelenting Singh has now openly declared that he would fight Navjot Singh Sidhu's elevation to Punjab Chief Ministership tooth and nail and said that he is ready to make any sacrifice to save the country from "such a dangerous man".

Even as he reiterated his intention to counter any move to make Sidhu the state’s CM face, Captain said he will pit a strong candidate against him in 2022 Assembly polls to ensure his defeat. "He is dangerous for the state," news agency ANI quoted the former CM saying in a recent statement.

Singh also disclosed that he had offered his resignation to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi 3 weeks earlier but she had asked him to continue. "If she had called me and asked me to step down, I would have," he said, adding that "as a soldier, I know how to do my task & leave once called back."

Further in his interview, Singh said that Priyanka and Rahul (Gandhi siblings) are like his children and this should not have ended like this. "I am hurt," Singh said. 

He even went on to say that the Gandhi children were quite inexperienced and their advisors were clearly misguiding them.

Indicating that he was still keeping his political options open, the former Chief Minister said he was talking to his friends before deciding on his future course of action.

Singh, a veteran Congress leader who has been associated with the party for over five decades, resigned as chief minister of Punjab saying that he felt 'humiliated. Singh openly rebelled against Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and was against his elevation as the next CM or party's face in upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections.

Sidhu was promoted as Punjab Congress chief earlier this year despite opposition by Amarinder Singh.
