'Always People First’: PM Modi Lauds FM's Decision To Slash Excise Duty On Petrol, Diesel

“Today’s decisions, especially the one relating to a significant drop in petrol and diesel prices will positively impact various sectors,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

New Delhi: Reacting to the announcement of slash in central excise duty for petrol and diesel by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that for his government people are always “first”.

Sitharaman made a series of announcements on Twitter which included a cut in central excise duty on petrol and diesel. Excise duty has been reduced by Rs 8 per litre on petrol and Rs 6 per litre on diesel. “This will reduce the price of petrol by ₹ 9.5 per litre and of Diesel by ₹ 7 per litre,” said Sitharaman. 

Sharing her tweet, PM Modi wrote, “Today’s decisions, especially the one relating to a significant drop in petrol and diesel prices will positively impact various sectors.” 

He further said that the decisions will “provide relief to our citizens and further Ease of Living.”

PM Modi also reacted to the announcement of providing a subsidy of Rs 200 under the PM Ujjawala Yoajana saying that the scheme “has helped crores of Indians, especially women.” 

“Today’s decision on Ujjwala subsidy will greatly ease family budgets,” he added. 

Among other decisions announced by the Union Finance Minister includes reduction in custom duty on raw materials & intermediaries for plastic products where our import dependence is high and on customs duty on raw materials & intermediaries for iron & steel.

 Import duty on some raw materials of steel will also be reduced.
