Alwar lynching: CCTV footage 'reveals' cops kept Rakbar Khan at police station for 1 hour

A day after a CCTV footage pointed to the callous approach of the Rajasthan Police in the handling of the Alwar lynching case, another footage has emerged that shows the cops kept the injured Rakbar Khan at Ramgarh police station for almost one hour.

ALWAR: A day after a CCTV footage pointed to the callous approach of the Rajasthan Police in the handling of the Alwar lynching case, another footage has emerged that shows the cops kept an injured Rakbar Khan at Ramgarh police station for almost one hour. As per the CCTV camera installed at a shop nearby Ramgarh police station, the police vehicle is seen going towards the police station at around 2:45 pm, while in the footage of CCTV installed at a building in front of Ramgarh hospital, the police vehicle is seen going in the direction of the hospital at around 3:47 pm. As the hospital is just 500 meters away from the police station, it can be derived that Rakbar was kept inside the police station for one hour. Police reached the hospital with Rakbar at 4.00 am, where he was declared brought dead, as per police and hospital records. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria on Tuesday said that Rakbar who was beaten up by a mob of cow vigilantes, actually died in police custody and the state government has taken steps to get a judicial probe conducted. "According to the evidence we have collected, it looks like a custodial death. Further investigation is underway," the minister said. Kataria said the Ramgarh police made an error of judgment as they first took the cows to the shelter and then took the victim to the hospital. Taking Rakbar to the hospital earlier could have saved his life, he added. On Saturday, Rakbar and his friend Aslam were taking cows to their villages in Haryana through a forest area in Alwar's Ramgarh, where they were caught by a group of people. While Aslam managed to flee, Rakbar was allegedly thrashed brutally by the group. The police have arrested three people suspected to be involved in the attack on Rakbar. Under fire for a delay in taking Rakbar to the hospital, the Rajasthan Police set up a four-member committee to probe the allegations. The panel ordered the suspension of the then assistant sub-inspector posted at the Ramgarh police station, Mohan Singh, and transferred three others to police lines.
