Allahabad: Samajwadi Party's criminal-politician Atique Ahmed jailed
New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party's criminal-politician Atique Ahmed has been jailed for creating hooliganism in the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS).
He has been sent to jail for 14 days and the police acted after damnation by the Allahabad High Court. He was out on bail.
Atique Ahmed, in 2004-2009, was an SP member of the 14th Lok Sabha from the Phulpur (Lok Sabha Constituency) in Uttar Pradesh. From 1999-2003 he was the president of the Apna Dal, founded by Sone Lal Patel.
Aatiq Ahmad, in the 2009 General Elections, was allowed to run for election (since he was yet to be convicted in any case). However, in 2008, the Samajwadi Party had expelled him, Mayawati refused him a ticket under BSP, so he stood from the Apna Dal party from Pratapgarh, but he lost.
He was taken back into the Samajwadi Party, in 2014, and fought the National Elections from the Shrawasti (Lok Sabha constituency). But lost to Daddan Mishra of the BJP.
In 2014 elections, according to his affidavit, he has declared that there are 42 cases pending against him, including six charges of murder, and six for attempted murder. There are four of kidnapping and abduction.
The most sensational murder was that of BSP MLA Raju Pal. Pal had defeated Atique's brother Ashraf in the 2004 National elections.
On 15 December 2016, Atique Ahmed was already arrested once for assaulting staff of the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.
