Agnipath Protests: Section 144 Imposed In Gurugram As Precautionary Measure, Outrage Continues

The violators will, as per the order, be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

New Delhi: In view of the protests against the Central government’s Agnipath recruitment scheme for the armed forces, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed in Haryana’s Gurugram city on Friday. Issuing the same, the police said strict action will be taken against the violators. “Prohibitory orders u/s 144 CrPC have been issued to restrict gathering of more than 4 persons in Gurugram,” Gurugram Police tweeted.

“Strict action will be taken against violators, who take law into their hands,” the police added.

The violators will, as per the order, be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The order will, however, “not apply to police and public servants on duty”.

Gurugram District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav said the order “shall be promulgated throughout the revenue limits of Gurugram district by beats of drums, by announcement through publicity van of Public Relation Department and/or any other medium and by affixing copies of this order on the notice board of district; sub-divisional and tehsil offices and the other public places”.

This comes as the protests, which began in Bihar, has now spread to West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh.

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has called for a Bihar bandh on Saturday against the Agnipath scheme.
