After Hooda Met Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad And Members Of G-23 To Meet Sonia Gandhi: Sources

On Thursday, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Rahul Gandhi after the faction's meeting at Azad's residence in New Delhi.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and some members of the G-23 group will meet party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi today, reported news agency ANI.

"After talking to Sonia Gandhi, we will fix the timing of the meeting (with Azad and other G-23 leaders) and inform about the same," Rahul Gandhi was quoted by ANI sources.

Earlier, only Azad was scheduled to meet Sonia Gandhi.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of Congress' abysmal performance in the 2022 state assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa.

On Thursday, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda met Rahul Gandhi after the faction's meeting at Azad's residence in New Delhi. He was the first leader from the group to approach the Congress High Command.

During the meeting, both the leaders discussed the resolution taken by the G-23 group.

Hooda suggested elections of the Congress Working Committee and sought the appointment of an experienced person for North India. He also highlighting the need to make collective decisions and urged to know who is making decisions in the party, reported ANI, citing sources.

The G-23 is a rebel group comprising of leaders like Manish Tewari, Kapil Sibal, Anand Sharma and Ghulam Nabi Azad. They are also members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

The rebel group was formed after a group of leaders in August 2020, wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi demanding reforms in the Congress party for its poor electoral performances.

Congress' performance in all five states were extremely poor. In Uttar Pradesh it could only bag 2 seats in the 403 member assembly, while in Punjab it was reduced to 18 seats.
