Afghan Crisis: All Indians Citizens In Kabul Awaiting Evacuation ‘Safe’, Says Govt

Continuing the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan, an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J transport aircraft earlier took off from Kabul with over 85 Indians.

New Delhi: Amid concerns post the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, the government on Saturday said all Indians citizens in Kabul awaiting evacuation are safe.

All Indians citizens in Kabul awaiting evacuation are safe. They were offered lunch and have now left for Kabul airport, ANI reported government sources as saying.

Continuing the evacuation of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan, an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J transport aircraft earlier took off from Kabul with over 85 Indians.

The aircraft landed in Tajikistan for refuelling, ANI reported government sources as saying.

Sources added the Indian government officials are helping in the evacuation of Indian citizens on the ground in Kabul.

This was the third evacuation flight, which took off from Kabul.

Earlier this week, the IAF C-17 heavy-lift aircraft, carrying the second batch of diplomats, officials and journalists from Kabul, landed in Gujarat's Jamnagar. Indian ambassador to Afghanistan, Rudrendra Tandon, was on the flight along with 120 other diplomats and officials.

Indian Air Force's C-17 aircraft evacuated more than 140 passengers from Kabul.

Air India AI243 flight had earlier evacuated 129 passengers from Kabul.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who earlier this week chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), directed all concerned officials to undertake necessary measures to ensure safe evacuation of Indian nationals from Afghanistan in the coming days.

The CCS meeting was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla besides other senior officials.
