ABP South Rising: BJP MP Counters CM Revanth Reddy's Concerns Over Delimitation, 'Not Only Population But...'

Congress leader Madhu Goud Yaskhi, while supporting delimitation, expressed apprehensions about the process under PM Modi, citing fears that the government might overlook regional concerns.

Raghunandan Rao Madhavaneni, BJP MP from Medak and State Secretary of Telangana, addressed concerns about the proposed constituency reorganisation, emphasising the BJP's commitment to respecting the Constitution as envisioned by Dr BR Ambedkar. Speaking at a panel titled "Bipolar or Multipolar: The Politics of Tomorrow," he acknowledged the argument raised by regional parties regarding southern states potentially receiving a fewer parliamentary seats due to their effective population control measures.

Speaking at the ABP Southern Rising Summit 2024, Raghunandan Rao Madhavaneni said, "Some regional parties argue that the South might get fewer seats compared to the North due to population differences. However, population alone shouldn't be the only consideration." He affirmed that the reorganization committee would address the concerns of leaders like Tamil Nadu CM Stalin, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, and the Northeastern states.

"As far as the population is concerned, southern states controlled in a good manner so the south is going to get lesser seats compared to the north in terms of Parliament seats. This is the argument put forth in front of the public by some of the regional parties. Not only population, but other things should also be taken into consideration," he said.

In 2009, Raghunandan said that UPA reorganised well for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh so that was why he was insisting that the population aspect alone must not be taken into consideration.

"A committee which will be formed for reorganisation will take into consideration the concerns of Stalin, Revanth Reddy and Siddaramaiah. As well as, North Eastern states," he assured.

Congress Campaign Committee Chairman for Telangana, Madhu Goud Yaskhi, while supporting delimitation, expressed apprehensions about the process under PM Modi, citing fears that the government might overlook regional concerns.

Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the ABP Southern Rising Summit 2024 criticised the Centre, alleging that the BJP is favoring states that haven’t adhered to family planning guidelines to serve its political interests. "The South is being penalised for good governance. All parties, including the BJP, should demand an increase in seats in the South to maintain a fair share," Reddy remarked, warning of potential resistance if the region's concerns are not addressed equitably.
