ABP Ideas Of India: Shashi Tharoor And Jagdeep Dhankhar To Speak Their Minds On Idea Of Freedom
1st edition of the ABP Ideas of India Summit, being held on March 25 and 26, will bring thought leaders, visionaries, pop stars, and civil society pioneers to talk about new ideas of India.
New Delhi: "At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom..." The momentous speech by first India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of India's independence in 1947 invoked a multitude of emotions as a new India pondered on the idea of independence and freedoms citizens can enjoy.
Seventy-five years ago, it was about leaving the colonial rulers behind and rebuilding India with a democracy that promised space for everyone. As India evolved, the debate around the idea of freedom has also moved on.
It has always been a debatable issue what does the 'Idea of Freedom' entails for an ordinary citizen.
Taking the continuous discussion forward, Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Governor of West Bengal, will engage in a conversation with Dr Shashi Tharoor, senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, on the platform of 'Wildstone presents ABP Ideas of India' on Saturday, March 26.
The session, "Law, Liberty, and the Limits of Democracy: A functioning anarchy or a Non-negotiable Democracy?" will be chaired by noted journalist Vir Sanghvi.
