AAP leader Satyendra Jain said that Swaraj falsely claimed that 3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence.
The former Delhi minister, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendra Jain filed a defamation case against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj. The Rouse Avenue Court will consider the complaint on Tuesday. He has alleged that Swaraj made remarks against him in a television interview to tarnish his reputation.
As per an ANI report, Jain has alleged that on October 5, 2023, made defamatory statements in a televised interview. He said that the remarks were made by Bansuri Swaraj to defame him and to gain undue political advantage.
Jain said that Swaraj falsely claimed that 3 crores, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence. He contended that these allegations were baseless and politically motivated to malign his image.
The AAP leader said that as a part of the vilification campaign, Swaraj defamed him further by calling him “corrupt and a fraud”. He claimed that the BJP MP made several false, malicious, and defamatory accusations against him.
He then added that remarks have caused him severe damage to his personal and professional reputation and have affected his role as a public representative as well as his standing among his family and society.
The Jain asserted that the Swaraj had severely damaged his reputation, with the smear campaign having a cascading effect on his roles as a husband, father, brother, friend, and member of society. Additionally, it claimed the allegations have irreparably scarred his otherwise unblemished political reputation. Jain stressed that the harm caused by these frivolous accusations is immeasurable, as his character and standing have been attacked not only in his capacity as an elected representative and mass leader but also in his personal life.
In October, Jain was granted bail after he was arrested in 2022 in a money laundering case. He was given bail on a furnishing bail bond of Rs. 50000 and a surety bond.
