A 7-Day Chase Of Gangster Vikas Dubey Ends With Encounter And Killing, Know How The Event Unfolded

At the time of his death, the gangster emerged as the most wanted criminal from nobody, and that too within a span of one week -from Friday to Friday.

Lucknow, July 10: The notorious gangster Vikas Dubey, who was on the run after killing eight policemen, was nabbed on Thursday and killed during an encounter. This brings down the curtain on the week long chase since and his accomplices shot dead personnel in Bikru village under Chaubeypur police circle in cold blood. The criminal came to the fore a weeknight ago to grab the attention of the state authorities finally got arrested. Here is the sequence of important events that led to the killing of the dreaded criminal. Day 1-MASSACRE

• On July 3, which happened to be Friday, the police reached gangster’s house to arrest him in a case of attempted murder. Dubey, who already has a tip-off through his connections in the police force, seems to be prepared enough which led to him open fire on unsuspecting police personnel leaving them dead. However, the criminal managed to flee with his accomplices leaving behind the horrific scene.
• The attack on the police, a first of its kind in the state, caused nationwide outrage raising doubts on the Yogi Adityanath government and the state police force.
• In fact, the state authority sprang into action which led to the Kanpur police killing two suspects, Prem Prakash Pandey and Atul Dubey, within four hours of the incident.

Day 2- ARREST OF STATION OFFICERS

• In the aftermath of the massacre, the police demolished Dubey's house in Bikru village a day and destroyed his two vehicles and two tractors with an earthmover.
• The action made political leaders like former Union Minister Salman Khurshid question the legality of the action and the action on his family earned him support from the Brahmin community.
• Soon after that station officer Vinay Tiwari and inspector K.K. Sharma were suspended after their call detail records confirmed their conversation with the gangster.
• Both of them were arrested on Wednesday.
• In all these years the criminal had accumulated wealth and property through deals in real estate, liquor business, and contracts.
• As the police dig deeper, the political connections of Vikas Dubey also made it to headlines. His relations with political leaders across the spectrum brought displeasure to the concerned people in in power and opposition.
• Political parties indulged in mud-slinging and played the blame game as the STF hunted down and killed his lieutenant Amar Dubey on Wednesday in Hamirpur and Bauan Dubey in Etawah.

Day 3 – CLOSE AIDE SHOT DEAD

• Prabhat Mishra, who was arrested from Faridabad on Wednesday, was shot dead in an encounter on Thursday - ironically, at the same spot where Vikas Dubey would later be felled on Friday.
• The criminal still managed to be out of police reach. The police sent 50 teams and Special Task Force to raid all his hideouts and picked up his relatives to put pressure on the gangster.
• In fact the borders of the state were sealed and frantic searches were carried out on the highways while Vikas remained holed up in a relative's house in Kanpur itself for two days.
• He then managed to reach Faridabad where he was caught in a CCTV camera at a hotel. But the police only reached after he left. Every move of Vikas Dubey was continuously under close watch even by the media turning the gangster into a much-dreaded don almost overnight.

Day 4: ARRESTED AND KILLED

• Even as the police was frantically searching to arrest the gangster, he managed to reach Madhya Pradesh and then to Ujjain. On Thursday morning, he went to the famous Mahakaal temple where he revealed his identity and got himself arrested, as per the IANS report.
• The Madhya Pradesh police claimed the credit for his arrest and Vikas was handed over to the UP STF on Thursday night.
• The gangster then reached Kanpur on Friday morning when the SUV he was being brought in overturned and he was killed while trying to flee.
• At the time of his death, the gangster managed to gain the tag of the most popular gangster to emerge as the most wanted criminal and that too within a span of one week -from Friday to Friday.
