New Delhi: Asserting that elections by far went peacefully in Assam and West Bengal, the Election Commission on Monday said that electorates came in good numbers to exercise their franchise. "More than 82.02 percent of the total population in Assam cast their votes, where as 79.51 percent people voted in West Bengal," informed the Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena. "The elections were carried out peacefully, no incidents of violence or clash took place in any of the polling stations, except one incident in Barpeta polling station in Assam," he added. Meanwhile, Election Commission has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident that resulted in death of one person in Barpeta. Voting for the second part of the first phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal and for the second and final phase in Assam was held today amid stringent security arrangements.
