7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Nepal; Tremors Felt In Delhi-NCR, Bihar, West Bengal

Nepal is situated in a seismically active zone and has experienced significant earthquakes in the past.

Earthquake: An earthquake of 7.1 magnitude hit Nepal on Tuesday morning and its tremors were felt in neighbouring Bihar, West Bengal and Delhi-NCR. The earthquake occurred at 6:35 am, 93 km northeast of Lobuche, near the Nepal-Tibet border, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

News agency Reuters, citing Chinese officials, reported a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Shigatse City in Tibet. There were no immediate reports of any damage.

Nepal is situated in a seismically active zone and has experienced significant earthquakes in the past. In 2015, Nepal experienced two devastating earthquakes that claimed the lives of 9,000 people and left 22,309 others injured. 

Beds, Chandeliers Started Shaking

Visuals from Bihar showed fans and chandeliers shaking due to the impact of the earthquake.

Meera Adhikari, a resident of Kathmandu, recalled how a bed in her room started shaking. "I was sleeping when the earthquake struck. The bed was shaking and I thought my child was moving the bed, I didn't pay that much attention but the shaking of the window prompted me that it was an earthquake. I then hurriedly called my child and evacuated the house and came to the open ground," she told ANI.
