60% Of Central Vista Redevelopment Project Ready: Govt Informs Parliament

The government, on the other hand, intends to host the 2022 Republic Day parade on the newly-developed Rajpath, which is part of the Central Vista Avenue Redevelopment Project.

New Delhi: Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry told the Lok Sabha on Thursday that the Central Vista Avenue redevelopment, which stretches from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate and has a December 2021 deadline, has attained 60% physical progress.

The government, on the other hand, intends to host the 2022 Republic Day parade on the newly-developed Rajpath, which is part of the Central Vista Avenue Redevelopment Project.

In a written response to Congress MP Manish Tewari's query, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore stated that the new Parliament building project, which is slated to be finished by October 2022, had made 35% physical progress.

On September 16, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the Winter Session of Parliament will be held in the new Parliament building during the inauguration ceremony of two office complexes for personnel of the Defence Ministry and the armed services.

"I would like to assure you that the redevelopment work of Central Vista Avenue will be completed in two-and-a-half months, where the Republic Day parade will be held," he had said while addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the event.

1,289 Crore Spent On Central Vista Project So Far

The Union Housing Ministry informed Parliament that about Rs 1,289 crore had been spent so far on the multi-phase Central Vista Redevelopment project.

So far, Rs 190.76 crore of the entire budget of Rs 608 crore has been spent on it, said Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore in the Lok Sabha in response to a question from Congress MP Manish Tiwari.

According to the minister, these projects have directly offered more than 10,000 skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees with direct livelihood possibilities both on and off-site, and have produced more than 24.12 lakh man-days of employment.

Furthermore, considerable employment in the manufacture and transportation of cement, steel, and other building supplies has been supplied, according to Kishore, who said that these activities will also contribute to the economy and help us achieve our goal of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat."

No Connection Between Central Vista Project And MPLADS

He further stated that there is no connection between the Central Vista project and the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

"Separately, the Union Cabinet, in its meeting on November 10, has restored MPLADS for the remaining part of the Financial Year 2021-22 and its continuation from FY 2022-23 to FY 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs 17,417 crore," he was quoted by PTI in its report.

Central Vista Redevelopment Project

The Central Vista redevelopment project envisions a new triangular Parliament building, a single central secretariat, a three-kilometre-long Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, a new prime minister's home and prime minister's office, and a new Vice President's enclave.
