3 AMU students suspended for holding prayer meet for slain terrorist Manan Wani
BJP MP Satish Gautam said "the students who organise such events are bringing disrepute to the University, they should be frisked before entering the campus."
Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): A prayer meeting was organised in the campus of Aligath Muslim University in the memory of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Manaan Bashir Wani killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara. Several students were seen sitting together in the prayer meet for their college’s PhD scholar who joined terrorist ranks in January this year.
The college authorities took a serious note of the matter and have taken strict action against the organisers of the prayer meet. A show cause notice has been served to the organisers while three students have been placed under suspension.
Aligarh Muslim University Registrar Dr Abdul Hamid on Thursday informed that Wani was rusticated from the University and that the varsity had no knowledge of his know-how ever since.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Hamid said, "Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Manan Wani who was killed in Handwara encounter on Thursday was once a student at AMU but he was rusticated from the University. AMU had nothing to do with him now."
Also, came reports of students shouting 'Azaadi' (freedom) slogans after the prayer meet. Police say the matter is being probed.
BJP MP Satish Gautam said "the students who organise such events are bringing disrepute to the University, they should be frisked before entering the campus."
Wani was among the two Hizbul Mujahideen militants killed in an encounter with security forces at Handwara in frontier district of north Kashmir yesterday.
Reports say the encounter broke out in the early hours of Thursday at Satgund in Handwara following a specific intelligence about presence of Wani, 27, along with two others. The two did not surrender despite being asked to several times.
