The girl and her 40-year-old mother used to have frequent quarrels as the woman wanted her daughter to pursue a medical course, but she refused to do so, PTI reported an official at the Rabale Police Station as saying.
The official added the girl informed the police on July 30 that her mother fell and died.
The official further said the forensic examination report later revealed that the woman was strangled to death.
The girl during police interrogation confessed that she had strangled her mother with a karate belt after a fight with her.
Earlier on Monday, the police detained the girl and registered a case against her under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This comes as the girl had earlier last month also complained to the police about her mother. The police had then reportedly counselled the family members.
