Hyundai Venue Dethrones Maruti Vitara Brezza As Segment Leader
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is no longer the highest-selling SUV in the country.
The sub-4 metre SUV segment sales have gone down 13 per cent last month, compared to June 2019. The only car to post a positive month-on-month sales growth was the Hyundai Venue. The Korean SUV had its best monthly sales figures since launch. Let’s have a look at the sales figures of all the SUVs in the segment.
Hyundai Venue: The Hyundai Venue has dethroned the Vitara Brezza to become the highest-selling sub-4 metre SUV. Hyundai sold over 9500 units of the Venue, at a time when the automobile industry is in the middle of a slowdown. Venue has managed to capture over 35 per cent of the market share.
Maruti Vitara Brezza: The Vitara Brezza has been on the top of the sales chart of the sub-4 metre segment for a very long time, but it finally met its match in the Venue. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell over 5000 units of the SUV. The current Vitara Brezza has been on sale since 2016, and a facelift is highly required to refresh the ageing design. However, it still holds a respectable market share of just under 20 per cent.
Mahindra XUV300: The Mahindra XUV300 has seen a minimal dip in sales because of the automobile industry slump. Mahindra managed to sell almost 4500 units, which is well over its average sales of under 4000 units over the past six months. The XUV300 commands a market share of over 16 per cent in this highly competitive segment.
Tata Nexon: India’s safest car, the Tata Nexon, has also seen its sales go down in July compared to its average sales over the past six months. The new entrants, Hyundai Venue and XUV300, have made the sub-4 metre market more competitive for the Nexon. Tata still managed to sell more than 3000 units of it.
Ford EcoSport: The EcoSport has been a steady performer and its sales figures were close its average monthly sales over the past six months. Ford managed to sell over 3000 units of the EcoSport despite the slowdown in the industry,
Mahindra TUV300: The TUV300 continues to be in its own league and the new launches in the segment did not affect its sales figures. Mahindra managed to sell more than 1000 units of the SUV once again. The current market share of the TUV300 stands at just over 4 per cent.
Total: The sub-4 metre SUV segment registered sales of just under 27,000 units in the month of July, which is almost 13 per cent less than June 2019.
