Hyundai i20 Active Facelift In Works, Spied Testing In Korea

Features LED tail lamps, likely to launch next year

Hyundai India updated its i20 Active in May 2018. However, the changes were too minimal to term it as a facelift. Now, the Hyundai i20 Active has been spied testing at its home country, South Korea. And from the first look of it, it seems a proper facelift is on the way.

The spied rear-end image of the i20 Active facelift reveals LED tail lamps, similar to the ones on the already introduced 2018 Hyundai Elite i20. The number plate positioning on the tailgate, instead of the bumper, is the same as seen in the recently unveiled 2018 Euro-spec i20 Active. The round reflectors are intact in their places. We expect it to borrow most features like a cascading grille and new alloys from the Euro-spec model and the i20.

When the Hyundai Elite i20 was introduced at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo, it was expected the i20 Active will also get the respective updates. But its upgraded version didn’t feature any aesthetic changes of its hatchback cousin; instead, the newly added bits were limited to mostly interiors.

In the last update, the Hyundai i20 Active got a dual tone colour option (Marina Blue with Polar White roof) and ISOFIX child seat anchors in its top-spec SX variant. Additionally, it featured Hyundai’s latest 7-inch infotainment system, Arkamys sound system, Android app-based remote, sliding front armrest and rear armrest with cupholders, just like the updated Elite i20. The engine details are likely to remain unchanged in the i20 Active facelift: a 1.2-litre petrol putting 83PS/115Nm and a 1.4-litre diesel pumping 90PS/220Nm. Both the engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission; however, it’s likely to offer a CVT option, just like the updated i20.

As the Korean automaker has recently updated the i20 Active, it seems quite unlikely that it’ll launch the facelifted car by the end of this year. Expect it to roll out by the first quarter of next year. The prices are likely to remain the same with minor increment over the existing ones. The current i20 Active is priced in the range of Rs 7.06 lakh – Rs 10.07 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
