Harley-Davidson Gears Up To Enter Indian Used Motorcycle Segment
The concept is being tested at the select stores currently and the programme is to roll out in the coming months
The latest announcement from Milwaukee-based two-wheeler manufacturer, Harley-Davidson, will bring smiles to the faces of cruiser lovers across the country. The dream of owning a Harley is likely to come true as the bike maker is planning to enter the used motorcycle segment in India. Delhi is expected to be among the first cities where the programme will see the light of day.
According to Peter Mackenzie, the managing director of Harley-Davidson India and Greater China, the concept’s validation process has already started at select dealerships across the country. “The used bike business will enable us to attract more customers. Secondly, to enable people, perhaps who cannot afford a new Harley-Davidson, but at least get the right Harley-Davidson experience through an authorised dealership,” he said.
The bike maker is also planning to launch a chain of apparel stores in the country. “We will be opening up more apparel stores in shopping malls so that customers connect and experience the Harley-Davidson brand. That is a major piece of strategy in growing this year,” Mackenzie added.
The used bike segment in India is lucrative for both manufacturers as well as for the customers. A few months ago, Royal Enfield launched its first showroom for refurbished models in Chennai. It would be interesting to see how Harley-Davidson decides to price its used motorcycles. Nevertheless, this new programme would certainly attract new customers, especially the ones with a tight budget.
