Farmers' Protests: Hailed As A Hero But Booked With Attempt To Murder; Here’s More About Navdeep Singh

A young farmer from Ambala who became viral on social media for turning off police water cannon has been slapped with an attempt to murder charges.

New Delhi: A young Ambala farmer Navdeep Singh emerged as a hero during the ongoing farmer's protest against the 3 new Farm Bills introduced by the Central government. Singh who is the son of a farm leader had jumped from his tractor trolley onto the water cannon which was deployed on farmers when they were making their way to Delhi, and turned it off. The video of the incident which took place on November 25 has gone viral on social media. Singh has been slapped with Section 307 of the IPC for the attempt to murder. He has also been charged with rioting and violating Covid-19 protocols. According to media reports the case has been registered at Parao police station. Along with him, Bharatiya Kisan Union president Gurnam Singh Chaduni has also been charged with the same crime. A report by Times of India says Singh is a graduate of Kurukshetra University and he joined his father, Jai Singh of Jalbera village, in agriculture after completing his studies. While speaking to ABP News he brought out the problems that will be faced by the farmers due to the passage of the 3 Farm Bills." We will have no guarantee of MSP, no assurance of payments or of rectification of our complaints. We can't even go to court. How will our livelihood sustain then?" said Singh. He added, "We are not associated with any political party. Since 4 months, no one has talked to us neither have they explained anything. PM Modi had assured us that he will adopt the Swaminathan code that has not happened." The farmer's got permission to hold a "peaceful demonstration" at the Nirankari Ground in Burari on Friday. Hundreds of farmers had faced tear gas and water cannons before the announcement. Earlier, Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain had denied permission to use stadiums as temporary jails for agitating farmers as Delhi Police had approached the government to allow them to use the city's nine stadiums as temporary jails due to the farmers' 'Delhi Chalo' march.
